The 2024 Golden Pin Design Award and Golden Pin Concept Design Award gathered nearly 3,000 outstanding entries from 21 regions, including Taiwan, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, New Zealand, Poland, Lithuania, the United States, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Italy, and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. It is a great honor for Yu Ching Plastics Co., Ltd. to have its work "Easily Stackable Marine Waste Utility Box" shortlisted and to have the opportunity to advance to the second round with 1,203 other entries. As they say, being shortlisted is already a recognition.
Design background/features/advantages of the entry:

In response to the goals of circular sustainability, net-zero carbon emissions, and achieving SDG 12 "Promote sustainable consumption and production patterns," the Taiwan-based blow molding manufacturer—Yu-Ching Plastics Co., Ltd.—practices the principles of product development of circular economy. Starting with the issue of marine waste and carbon reduction trends, we have designed and developed the "Easily Stackable Marine Waste Utility Box" using hard-to-process recycled fishing nets. This initiative aims to change the perception that plastic products only harm the environment by utilizing recyclable materials and processes that are environmentally friendly and reduce carbon emissions. This showcases Taiwan's sustainable innovation and design capabilities on the international stage.  


The "Easily Stackable Marine Waste Utility Box" overcomes the challenges of using recycled marine waste materials in blow molding processes, expanding the application of recycled fishing nets and effectively reducing environmental waste. In the early design stages, customer requirements were collected, and the concept of environmental sustainability was integrated into the design. The design features include:
1. Single Material and Easy Disassembly: The box body is made from a single material and uses easily detachable fasteners, making it convenient to recycle at the end of its lifecycle.
2. Stackability and Efficient Transport: The textured surface design and corresponding concave-convex patterns on both sides make the box easier to stack without tipping over, and save on shipping volume, indirectly reducing carbon emissions.
3. Low-Carbon and Plastic Reduction Design: The box weight has been successfully reduced by 20%, lowering carbon and plastic use without affecting its load-bearing capacity.
4. Innovative Appearance: The design features curves that represent ocean imagery, diamond-patterned textures that reflect the glitter of seawater, and the color of seaweed, breaking the stereotype of dark-colored marine waste products. This creates a look that is entirely different from the traditional black, rigid toolboxes, enhancing sensation of visual and tactile, and fully embodying the spirit of sustainability.

We hope that through this work, we (Yu Ching) can demonstrate our commitment to the green environment and our friendliness toward the land. By successfully transforming ocean waste into stunning, practical products, we also aim to raise public awareness about the importance of cherishing and protecting the environment.
